How did you get into tech?
“Growing up, I spent a lot of time at my parents’ hospital in front of a computer while they worked. It was great because I had a T1 line versus dial-up at home. I spent most of the time looking up cheat codes to video games…”
What is the first piece of advice you tell all your portfolio companies?
“Human capital is as important, if not more important, than venture capital. Spend the time and resources to develop your employees early on as they are your true long-term competitive advantage.”
What is your life philosophy?
“Find and surround yourself with people that will 10x your productivity, make you smile, and keep you grounded.”
Why do you come to work every day?
“To learn from people that are smarter than me and to get a peek of what the future looks like.”
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
“I wanted to be an ER surgeon – to this day I’ve always admired my parents and how they save people’s lives as physicians. It’s tough to scale a doctor though and ultimately I wanted to be involved in ideas that affect people at massive scale.”
What do you consider your strongest quality to be?
“I’m a pretty humble guy, maybe it’s because I grew up under immigrant parents. The only thing we have real control over is the effort we put into something. Even as your investor, I’ll be your hardest worker.”
How do you spend time away from work?
“Building relationships, living vicariously through the biographies of interesting people, and exploring the world with my best friend (and wife) Renee.”
